Which Is What, 2018

Installationlike photogragh exhibition
Pigment prints on DiBond

EXHIBITED:
GALLERY LAPINLAHTI, Helsinki, FI, 2018

The exhibition consisted of a photograph taken by my father on a business trip in Germany in 1987 and pictures I had taken of newer Italian cemeteries on the summer and the autumn 2018.

Father liked heights and open views. I selected from his archives a photograph picturing pastures and a mountain. I have also in my own photographs given space for the sceneries framing my subjects; the outskirts of cities, greenhouses, fields, and mountains often used as metaphors for sublime.

The new Italian cemeteries interest me with their urbanity and varied architecture, that often embodies both old and new and with its narrow lanes and tomb buildings reminds more of secular than the kingdom come – holy and exalted appear in harmony with secular and mundane.

Thanks to Finnish Cultural Foundation for the support of the photograph trips and work.
