EXHIBITED:
ALEKSANTERIN LINNA, Spoken and Unspoken, Serlachius Museums and Mänttä Art Festival, Mänttä, FI, 2015

Installation Introite completed in the Serlachius Residency was based on the correspondence between industrialist Gösta Serlachius and sculptor Emil Wikström negotiating the development of Serlachius family grave.

Due to various kinds of reasons the planning of the monument took over 20 years and during that time Wikström made among other things excursions to Europe. While searching for influences he visited both Florence, where he had studied and Nice, where he travelled on wishes of Serlachius to see Europe’s largest memorial of casualties of World War I.

As the plans progressed the parties discussed among other things the transcription on the memorial. Wikström suggested a Latin phrase indicating religious broad-mindedness while Serlachius insisted on Finnish language and biblical references.

The installation opened up the negotiations, phases, and motives related to the planning of the family memorial.
